Product description

The Shapton Kuromaku #2000 is used to refine an already sharp edge. It removes the scratch pattern left by a #1000 stone and smooths the very tip of the edge.

A #1000 grit stone produces a sharp and practical working edge. Moving to #2000 reduces the depth of the scratches and evens out the edge further. The result is a cleaner cut and improved cutting control, especially in kitchen use where precision matters.

The finer surface also strengthens the edge by removing small irregularities left by coarser stones. This helps create a sharp but stable edge suitable for regular use.

Like all Kuromaku stones, it is a splash-and-go Japanese ceramic sharpening stone and requires no soaking. The hard ceramic material resists wear and helps maintain a flat surface over time.

The #2000 completes a typical sharpening progression: #320 → #1000 → #2000, moving from repair to sharpening and finally to refinement.

We offer all three stones as a complete set for those who want a practical system for sharpening and maintaining their knives.

FAQs

Can the #2000 grit be used on its own?

It can be used to refine an already sharp edge. However, if the knife is dull, it is recommended to start with a #1000 grit stone before finishing with #2000.

Does a #2000 grit make the edge fragile?

No. The #2000 grit refines the edge while maintaining durability. It creates a smoother cutting feel without making the edge overly delicate.

Does the stone require soaking before use?

No. Like all stones in the Kuromaku series, it is splash-and-go.

What is the advantage of finishing at #2000?

Finishing at #2000 reduces the scratch depth left by #1000 and smooths the edge further. This results in a cleaner cut and more controlled slicing, particularly in kitchen use.

Is this suitable for outdoor and hunting knives?

Yes. While many outdoor knives work well with a #1000 finish, #2000 provides a smoother edge for those who want a cleaner cut without sacrificing durability.
